Manual Rehabilitative Massage Therapy

Gentle manipulation of soft tissues from a remedial perspective that may be altering the body’s natural position affecting proper structure/function relationship.  When the tissues are not in a neutral position, compression, tension and torsion is put through all layers of the body from the skin through to the bone.  This altered positioning affects vital nerves, arteries, blood vessels and lymphatics, the 4 rivers of life.  The affect on these vital structures expresses itself in the form of pain, discomfort, lack of movement, among other physical symptoms.

Rehabilitative Massage Therapy is both a patient active and passive treatment.  It focuses on assessing an in depth structural diagnosis based on skilled palpation and orthopedic assessment in order to determine the best functional soft tissue techniques needed in order to free lesioning in any of the tissue layers.  The goal of treatment is to allow the nerves, arteries, veins and lymphatics to flow freely in order to restore proper nutrition to these structures in order to help alleviate symptoms.  Techniques used include (but not limited to):

  • Myofascial release
  • Strain/Counterstrain
  • Distraction/Compression joint play
  • Trigger point therapy
  • Muscle Energy Techniques
  • Respiratory Assistance
  • Oscillatory techniques/ Rocking
  • Tapotement
  • Effleurage
  • Petrissage

Comfortable clothing is advised as treatments include various stretching techniques best done over top of the clothes.
